Description

Eureka Mignon Silenzio Espresso Grinder

Mornings are tough enough: skip the noise with the Eureka Silenzio Espresso Grinder. The Silenzio takes Eureka's home-size grinder and improves it with a new motor, anti-clumping system—and a custom-designed, sound insulated case. Rubber damping at motor mounts and around exit points like the throat and grind adjust knob reduce resonance for quieter grinding. The Silenzio may be quiet, but it packs in a host of Eureka's famous features like stepless grind adjustment, easy-access burrs, and a bottom burr adjust that preserves your grind setting during disassembly. Finally, early-morning espresso that won't take up space or wake the kids.

Features and Functionality

  • Sound-insulated Case - A thick metal case filled with rubber mounts, gaskets, and covers make for muted sound and low resonance.
  • Stepless 50mm Burrs - Sized for the home, the Silenzio's 50mm burrs are built from resilient, hardened steel.
  • Bottom-Burr Adjust - By adjusting below the motor mount, you can remove the top burr for cleaning without losing your grind setting.
  • Timed Dosing - Adjust the timer on the side of case to grind your ideal dose.
  • Redesigned Chute - A brand new assembly from the oringinal Mignon, the Silenzio's chute is wider, sound insulated and features anti-clumping technology.

Pros

  • Quiet - The Silenzio lives up to the name. You won't find a quieter grinder (unless you opt for a hand grinder).
  • Compact - If you have space restrictions on your countertop, this grinder will squeeze in almost anywhere.
  • Clump-free - The redesigned grind path and clump crusher make for clean, smooth grinds.

Cons

  • Basic Timer - The tiny timer knob on the side of the case is difficult to set the first few times you use it, since there are no real reference points.

Eureka Mignon Silenzio Espresso Grinder

The grinder works fabulously; it's consistent and quiet. My ONLY misgiving about the machine is that the infinite dial mechanism makes it very difficult to switch between grinds for different brew methods without losing track of how course/fine you're at — the price you pay for more variability.

Excellent Grinder!

I hesitated to upgrade my grinder for years. I went from a Breville Grinder Pro to the Silenzio and I have no regrets.

Silenzio is worth every penny

This is one awesome grinder! I purchased it specifically because it is one of the quietest grinders on the market, but I was truly surprised just how quiet it is!

The adjustment knob makes minute adjustments easy, and the very first shot out of the box was so close to perfect that it was drinkable. I was expecting 5 or 6 sink shots to dial it in.

The portafilter bracket would not fit my 1959 Faema Faemina portafilter. No biggie, I just took it off. If I sandwich my finger between the basket and the button it centers the basket perfectly to receive the grinds.

I single dose in the supplied hopper with no problems. There seems to be little to no grinds retention. I may just keep the beans in the hopper instead of the freezer, because the process is now so painless I will be going through beans faster.

One espresso and two cappuccinos into it, I have to say this grinder really wakes up the flavors in the cup.

I am not a guy who can blow money on luxury purchases. This was a major present to myself and it was everything I hoped it would be and more. I do not need all the bells and whistles of the higher end mignons. I just need an excellent grinder that is quiet and easy to adjust. I really feel lucky to have found this grinder.

Any cons? Tiny little nitpicky things that in no way diminish how much of a great grinder this is: While the machine is heavily built and of high quality, the hopper is a little flimsy. I doubt it is polycarbonate, just very thin plastic. I expect it will have cracks in a year or two. The throat gate of the hopper is poorly fitted and flimsy, but it will do it's job if I ever need it. The portafilter bracket is either waterjet or laser cut. The edge is very sharp (i.e. unfinished). I scuffed up the finish just slightly when I knocked the burr off (I could buff it if I wanted to, but I won't be using it). Even with these few complaints, I would buy this grinder again in a heartbeat.
