I am not sure why I ever messed around with those cheapo espresso machines with cheap groupheads. Of course a really good espresso or cappuccino is going to start with the coffee, but the machine's ability (or lack thereof) to hold a steady temperature matters too. For a high-end machine, it's not overly huge and it looks good as a centerpiece on your kitchen counter. The size of the boiler and reservoir is good; just make sure you don't let them run dry or you will damage the heating element. (Luckily not too much trouble to dump a cupful of water into the reservoir just to be sure of it.)
