Nuova Simonelli Grinta Review

Have you been searching for the best espresso grinder for your home for the lowest price possible? The Nuova Simonelli Grinta may be the end of your search.

Before you actually buy it, though, it’s a wise idea to do some research on its functions and quality. That’s what we’re here to help you with. In this Nuova Simonelli Grinta review, we’ll take a close look at the grinder from top to bottom, inside and out, and tell you what you need to know.

Here is what you’ll discover:

  • The Grinta’s most important features and why they’re important.
  • Potential alternatives to the Grinta.
  • Background information on Nuova Simonelli as a company.
  • Which situations the Grinta is best for.
  • Information regarding the prices of the grinders mentioned in this review.

Let’s get started…

Quick Summary

Despite its budget-friendly price tag, the Nuova Simonelli Grinta is a grinder best suited for experienced home baristas. Its all-manual grinding design allows you to grind precise doses, but also means you’ll need to learn to gauge exactly how much you need each time. It does have a stepped grind adjustment system, though, which helps beginners learn the ropes by offering them premade fineness settings to choose from.

Key Features and Why They’re Important

Fast Grinding

For a small espresso grinder, the Grinta is shockingly fast. Just how fast is it, exactly?

Within one hour of grinding, it can go through ten pounds of coffee beans. You’ll probably never need to grind for an hour straight at home, but if you do, you should have way more than enough coffee to satisfy yourself and everyone you’re serving.

While we wouldn’t go so far as to call it commercial-level speed, we still think it’s more than speedy enough for home baristas with even the most voracious appetite for coffee and espresso.

Stepped Grind Adjustment

The Nuova Simonelli Grinta has a stepped grind adjustment system. It’s sort of like training wheels on a grinder.

In a stepped system, users have a selection of premade fineness settings to choose from. This is much easier than a stepless system, which permits baristas to stop the adjustment wheel or knob at any point, effectively giving them limitless options.

For that reason, dialing in the grind on the Grinta may be much simpler than with many other advanced Nuova Simonelli grinders.

Flat Steel Burrs

Inside the Grinta, you’ll find flat stainless steel burrs. There are a few different qualities to discuss with just the burrs alone.

For starters, consider their shape, which is flat. Because the grinder has flat burrs, the grounds it generates will all be uniform in size. This makes it easier for water to reach all coffee particles during extraction, leading to balanced extractions time and time again.

Then there’s the burr material to discuss. Steel is a popular material for many commercial burrs for one obvious reason: it’s durable. Should you ever clean these burrs or remove them for maintenance, you won’t need to worry about cracking them.

Finally, we should touch on the size of the burrs. The Grinta has 50mm burrs, which truthfully isn’t the largest burr size out there. However, in a home environment or even as a secondary grinder in a small coffee shop, these burrs are still more than serviceable.

Doserless Grinding

Chances are, the reason you’re considering adding a grinder to your home is just that you want fresher coffee. It’s no secret that freshly grinding your own coffee beans always taste better than drinking cups made from pre-ground bagged mixes you can get at your grocery store.

The Grinta is specifically designed to deliver you the most potent coffee possible every time you use it. Instead of grinding a small stock of coffee into a container in advance, you use the grinder to prepare individual doses as you need them.

As a result, you can be certain your coffee is as fresh as possible. We’d be willing to bet you’ll taste the difference.

Manual Grinding

Many of Nuova Simonelli’s more high-end grinders have programmable grinding. Basically, what that means is that some of those grinders will time the duration of the grind or weigh each dose for you at the touch of a button, ensuring you get the same amount whenever you grind.

The Nuova Simonelli Grinta, on the other hand, has an all-manual grinding design. You’ll need to keep an eye on the grinder every time you use it to ensure you’re getting the correct amount of coffee grounds when you need them.

This does mean that using the Grinta can be a little challenging. You’ll have to learn how long to grind for to get consistent doses, whether it’s for espresso or filters of drip coffee.

Compact Size

Nowadays, it’s common to have a whole arsenal of appliances in your kitchen at home. Although these appliances are all created to make your life easier, the more you have, the less space you have available for new equipment.

With the Nuova Simonelli Grinta’s remarkably small size, you won’t need to worry about whether you can fit an espresso grinder in. It measures at 5.25 inches wide, 5.25 inches long, and 16.5 inches tall, which makes it one amazingly compact option.

About the Brand

Nuova Simonelli is one of the most experienced manufacturers in the coffee and espresso gear market. They were born in 1936 with the goal of creating equipment that’s both elegant and functional.

Throughout their existence, they’ve consistently created both espresso machines and grinders that are top-of-the-line. They often innovate with cutting-edge tech.

This is a well-loved brand. Baristas everywhere love their espresso machines and grinders, so you likely will, too.

Ideal Grinder Applications

Given its small size, modest burrs, and stepped adjustment system, we think the Nuova Simonelli Grinta is a better fit for baristas at home than in professional settings. It should be able to easily meet the demands of the average coffee-loving household.

It could also work as a secondary grinder in a small coffee shop. For instance, you could use it to grind decaf blends separately.
